History of Lake Worth Conservancy

The Silver Creek Alliance and “Ditch the Dump”

The origins of the Lake Worth Conservancy can be traced back to the Silver Creek Alliance, a grassroots group that emerged in response to a proposed landfill project near Silver Creek. The group’s mission was to stop the opening of a landfill located at 3411 Silver Creek Road, which they believed could severely impact the nearby Silver Creek tributary and Lake Worth, a primary source of drinking water for residents of Fort Worth.

The Silver Creek Alliance, with its slogan “Ditch the Dump,” actively engaged the community, requested public meetings, and communicated with local and state officials to raise awareness and oppose the landfill project. They argued that the proposed facility could increase air pollution, traffic congestion, and further deteriorate the already congested Silver Creek Road.

Expanding the Mission: The Lake Worth Conservancy

As the Silver Creek Alliance successfully halted the landfill project, the group recognized the need to expand its mission and focus on the broader preservation and enhancement of the Lake Worth community. This led to the formation of the Lake Worth Conservancy, a new organization dedicated to empowering stakeholders and collaborating with city officials, and planners to realize the community’s vision for Lake Worth.

A Collaborative Approach

The Lake Worth Conservancy believes in a collaborative approach. The Conservancy fosters connections between stakeholders, facilitates access to key decision-makers and resources, and provides a platform for coordinated advocacy.
